The Nuclear Illusion: A Technological Fix to the Energy Problem

We are facing a very serious energy and climate problem: our current energy generation model is not sustainable and if we insist in keeping it unchanged for a few more decades we will destabilize the climate system. The resolution of this dilemma requires a systemic social change. However, this kind of economical, cultural and social change is deemed too difficult to achieve by our political and economical leadership who would prefer to think that there are technological fixes that would not require social changes. Among these technological fixes, nuclear energy is the most talked about. Nevertheless, a simple quantitative analysis shows that it is no more than a dangerous illusion.
